	PROJECTS:


	SAEN has been active since its founding in 1979 in all aspects of our trout and salmon resource.

Since our inception, it has been our mission to develop and participate in projects that will enhance and protect our salmonid resource around the province. These pages provide an overview of some of the many projects that we are now, or in the past, have participated in. Just click on one of the project buttons above to discover additional detail about our projects.

It should be noted that without our members generous support, both financially and through volunteering, none of these important projects could be undertaken. Please take the time and become a member of SAEN. Your contribution will make many more of these projects possible.

	SAEN is currently active in restoring Atlantic salmon to the Rennies, Waterford and Avondale Rivers on the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland. Habitat Restoration We restored channelized sections of Rennies River in 1988. We catalogued all bridges and culverts on the Avalon Peninsula in 1984. Many have since been removed to allow fish passage. We blasted a waterfall at Ocean Pond in 1996 to allow fish passage to headwaters of the Rocky River system. In 1997, we completed our two-hour video series on Salmonid Habitat Improvement Techniques.



	On an annual basis, SAEN operates five provincial fishways for the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Since 1991, we have conducted the annual smolt migration count on Rocky River. In 1994, we completely catalogued 11 watersheds of the Avalon Peninsula.


	On an annual basis, SAEN hires students and fisheries monitors to help protect our rivers and their habitat.
